Which Airport Is Closest to Mount Bromo?
The closest international airport to Mount Bromo is Juanda International Airport (SUB) in Surabaya. By road it is about 3.5 to 4 hours to the Bromo area. There is no airport at Bromo itself.

Your options
- Juanda, Surabaya (SUB). The airport most visitors use. It has the widest choice of flights, and the road to Bromo is a single long drive. Allow 3.5 to 4 hours.
- Abdul Rachman Saleh, Malang (MLG). A little closer to Bromo by road, about 3 hours. It serves mostly domestic routes, so check your airline before you plan around it.
- Bali (DPS). Ngurah Rai is on another island. You would cross to Java by road and ferry first, so it only makes sense if Bali is part of a longer trip. We offer a Bromo and Ijen tour that ends with a drop-off towards Bali.
Probolinggo, the town below Bromo, has a train station and a bus station but no airport.
What works best on arrival day
Most travellers fly into Surabaya, rest for the evening, and head up to Bromo overnight, so they see the sunrise on the same trip. On our Bromo Sunrise Day Trip we pick you up at 22:00 at Surabaya airport, train station or bus station (or at the train or bus station in Probolinggo). The jeep tour runs from 02:00 to 09:00, and you are back in Surabaya around midday.
Landing in the afternoon or evening fits this well. If your flight arrives late at night, tell us your flight number and we will plan the pick-up around it.
